Best Apple Crisp

An apple crisp with tart apples and a caramelized, chewy topping. Serve with your favourite vanilla ice cream or vanilla whipped cream for a decadent dessert.



Pre-heat oven to 350 F

Grease an 9-inch casserole dish


Ingredients:


6 large apples, I like Granny Smith or Cortland

2 Tablespoons of water

1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice

1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 Teaspoon nutmeg


Topping:


1/2 Cup good quality butter

1/2 Cup quick rolled oats

1/2 Cup unbleached flour

1/2 Cup dark brown sugar


Method:


Peel apples and slice. Place in casserole dish

Drizzle water and lemon juice over the apples

Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the apples


Make the Topping:


Using your hands, mix together the butter, oats, flour and sugar until it forms a crumbly mixture

Put on top of the apples and arrange evenly. Press down a bit to make a firm covering


Place in a pre-heated 350 F oven for about 35-40 minutes or until it is bubbly and the topping is golden brown


Serve with Vanilla Whipped Cream or your favourite Vanilla Ice Cream
